Testimonials

“Resilient, innovative, and tenacious are three words that come to mind when describing Lilly. Throughout the years I have known Lilly, I have seen her adapt to any educational system and environment.

I first got to see Lilly’s ability to build on work communication and coalitions when we cotaught a lesson in my high school Algebra II class. We collaborated to create a project that incorporated real life experiences for students where they had to navigate through college and career. Students explored how to budget money and credit cards in the real world by creating a portfolio with a four-year college plan. Lilly created an environment where students were excited to start the project by learning about their interests and goals.

In addition to bringing out the best in students, Lilly is also astute in noticing details in written works that other people may have overlooked. I have seen her edit resumes and bring out the best in people. When she edits an essay, she brings out the best in the author by noticing their strengths and helping them incorporate those qualities into writing. I know she will continue to contribute and excel in the education field in the years to come. “

“I used Lilly Lew’s education consultation service for my graduate psychology application. Her helpful feedback and insightful advice on my personal statements enabled me see myself objectively and from the perspective of the admission committee. As a result, I could better describe my strength to the particular program that I was applying to. With her help, I was accepted into the graduate school of my choice.”

“Lilly is one of the most optimistic and empathetic scholars I have met during my graduate school study at UCSB. Her humor and smile transmit positive energy to people around her. She also showed great support for the minority student population including Asian students and Hispanic students through her academic research. Lilly is also a very experienced teacher. She received pedagogy training in both California State University (CSU) System and University of California (UC) System. Over the past 5 years, Lilly accumulated abundant experience in university teaching and academic coaching by teaching 15 courses in multiple disciplines at UCSB. In her courses, she prepared interactive lectures that blended scholarly research and critical thinking, led structured group discussion, and advised diverse students on grasping challenging materials. I believe Lilly would be a person of great value in academic coaching.”

“I met Lilly for the first time in Summer 2018, when we both worked as teaching assistants for UC Santa Barbara’s Freshman Summer Start Program (FSSP). FSSP is a six-week experience for admitted freshmen to become familiar with the university resources and the college environment at UC Santa Barbara. As part of our work as teaching assistants, we helped students navigate the academic resources on campus, and learn the fundamentals of academic research. Lilly was an incredible instructor and colleague, always available to help her students and going above and beyond to make sure her students felt confident and comfortable in her class. She introduced her students to the many resources at UC Santa Barbara, demonstrating her knowledge and familiarity with the University system, as well as excellent abilities to explain complex information, such as the grading systems for different classes, to diverse audiences. Lilly also encouraged her students to build connections with their peers and participated in social lunches with the other teaching assistants and the students to foster an environment of collegiality and trust. She often spent extra time outside of class mentoring her students and making sure that her students’ questions were answered, or that she could connect her students with opportunities to get involved in undergraduate research.

Lilly was also a great colleague to work with. She often spent time with her fellow teaching assistants to exchange ideas about best mentoring practices, or to offer a helping hand to any colleague in need. Her positive and bright personality would always shine through in any conversation, and she always shared resources and information with the group. I had the chance to chat with Lilly about her work and her research as part of her PhD, and I was always very impressed by her impeccable work ethic and her ability to balance different commitments. Her busy schedule never prevented her from spending time with her students, or from finding opportunities to network at conferences, and to share her knowledge and research with other scholars in her field. We often talked about research methods and about opportunities inside and outside of academia, and Lilly frequently demonstrated her ability to transfer her academic and research skills to environments outside of academia. I think Lilly is an incredible researcher, scholar, colleague, and person, and I am grateful I had the opportunity to work with her in the past.”

“I first met Lilly when she was my TA at UC Santa Barbara for the Freshman Summer Start Program (FSSP). She was extremely knowledgeable about the resources offered on campus, and she was always willing to help me navigate my first session at UCSB. During my third year, I started working with Lilly as an undergraduate research advisor. She walked through all of the work she had collected so far, explained how she wanted me to organize the data, and was very detail-oriented as we collected more data and presented at conferences. Moreover, Lilly is a pleasure to work with and she is an excellent mentor. Her vibrant personality makes every research meeting enjoyable, and I can always ask her for advice. I look forward to continue working with her.”

“I initially met Lilly when she was a TA for INT 95A, one of our courses in the University of California, Santa Barbara’s (UCSB) Freshman Summer Start Program (FSSP). The course mainly focused on acclimating incoming students to the resources and rigor of a research university, and Lilly’s guidance as a TA was incredibly impactful for me in my following years at UCSB. During FSSP, she was very approachable, and had readily available office hours to coach me and my peers about how to effectively utilize the academic resources of the university, as well as offer any general advice about life as a university student. Whether it was discussing how to effectively use the research databases of the library, or talking about the difficulties of keeping in contact with former high school friends as budding college students, it was always a joy to attend Lilly’s office hours. Overall, Lilly’s guidance as a TA for INT 95A really helped me feel comfortable approaching other TAs and staff for my future courses at UCSB, and I continued to keep in contact and seek out her help even after FSSP had finished. Her consistent kindness and compassion throughout the years really left an impact on me. For instance, when I was helping one of my younger friends with their college applications, Lilly even offered to read through my friend’s essays and give feedback. Following that, whenever she’d check-in and see how I was faring at UCSB, she’d also ask how my friend was doing with their college applications as well. I was always amazed and appreciative of Lilly’s capacity to both remember and care about the small details she had discussed with me and her other students. Lilly will forever be my favorite TA from UCSB, and my go-to for any academic support.”

Lilly’s genuine interest in my success helped me so much. I genuinely appreciate Lilly valuing my experiences and appreciate Lilly’s work ethic. Lily’s first-hand experience with the bumpy roads of academia helped me as I weathered them as well. Our research interests do not entirely align; however, Lilly’s ability to listen to my research ideas and offer great suggestions were super helpful. Lilly’s strength is to go beyond her immediate research area and interact in a meaningful way with other disciplines.

Lilly has made a huge impact on my life, and was a particularly important figure when I was applying for graduate schools. Not only did she provide me with endless advice about the application process, she also provided me with many resources and did an amazing job thoroughly editing my admissions essays. Because of her knowledge, dedication, and hard work, I was accepted into all three schools, and two of them had the highest ranking programs in the state. I wholeheartedly recommend Lilly’s services.
