Whenever I am exploring on the weekends, I am always looking for the perfect bite, sip, or treasure trove. Since I grew up by the California coast, I feel passionate about sampling the locally sourced seafood and fresh produce. When meeting with a friend over lunch, I took the plunge at the EMC Seafood and Raw Bar.

EMC had an extensive menu of exquisite shellfish, seasonal fish, and expertly prepared greens. When I ate at EMC, I sampled the yellowtail sashimi, crispy brussels sprouts, charbroiled mussels, and soft shell crab sliders. The slices of yellowtail tasted smooth and nuanced like the sea. The texture of the crispy brussels sprouts complemented the protein perfectly. The rich charbroiled mussels were dressed with a bright splash of citrus and a dash of tabasco hot sauce. The soft crab slider were paired with a creamy dressing, shredded lettuce, and sandwiched between a fluffy brioche bun. These dishes are perfect for sharing. The elegant outdoor dining added magic to any friendly lunch or a fancy dinner date.
I often search for a specialty coffee shop to meet with local friends or catch up with my writing after a busy work week. Since I relocated to San José, I compiled several different coffee recommendations. Although I love making coffee at home before heading to the office, the leisure involved with sitting at a coffee shop on a Saturday afternoon rejuvenated my spirit and recharged my inspiration.

Blue Bottle Coffee originated in Oakland, CA in 2002 and is a major player in third wave coffee. Over the past two decades, several storefronts emerged across select cities in the United States as well as a handful of prominent international locations. Rather than selecting beans from across different growing regions, Blue Bottle focuses on single-origin beans. In addition, Blue Bottle emphasizes premium quality. It had been one of the first establishments that marketed their beverage as the “$5 cup of coffee”.
When I arrived at the storefront, I spotted the line of patrons started from the register and expanding into the courtyard. The short menu included classic preparations of coffee and tea beverages in addition to local preparations. I ordered the winter blend latte with oat milk. The beans were mostly from Ethiopia and included layers of flavor such as dark chocolate, molasses with a hint of blackberry preserves. The magic of this beverage included a delicate balance of warmth and radiance.
The maker’s market provides local vendors and entrepreneurs a space to meet with customers and distribute their specialty items. These items include fun gifts, handmade jewelry, textiles, specialty spa items, kitchen gadgets, cocktail kits, leather works, and quirky books.

Living in a tech-driven world, I also have my cravings for products that involve incredible artistry and craftsmanship. I make an effort to support local artist communities wherever I go.
